Billfishing
We make it easy for our Lake El Salto customers to experience world-class billfishing action off the coast of Mazatlan. Our bass and billfish combinations are easily accessible and surprisingly affordable!
Mazatlan has developed a world-famous reputation for the wealth and variety of billfish that swim here. Boats with our customers have hooked as many as 10 billfish in a single day.
The town of Mazatlan has been known as the City of Sails because of it abundance of the popular fish. The ocean waters off Mazatlan hold more than sailfish. Anglers seasonally catch striped, black and blue marlin. During the winter it’s one of the premier places in the world to sport-hook a swordfish.
The typical Billfishing Itinerary:
5:30 am: Pickup at your hotel
6:00 am: After enjoying your complementary croissants, coffee and juice at the beautiful Marina El Cid, depart on one of the Aires Fleets sportfishing cruisers. Experienced captains will put you on the myriad of world-class gamefish including sailfish, marlin, swordfish, tuna, dorado and roosterfish found off the cost of the Spanish Riviera. Trolling, sight fishing and live bait are all part of this offshore adventure.
3:00 pm: Boats Return
Light Tackle
If action and variety is your game, you will want to combine a Lake El Salto trip with one of our fun-filled light-tackle saltwater outings. The inshore and nearshore water north of Mazatlan are enjoying a growing reputation as the place to rangle with a dozen or more different species of desirable salt-water gamefish.
The salty stretch between Lake El Salto and the resort city of Mazatlan is home of some of the finest light-tackle saltwater fishing in Mexico.
Main game fish: Dorado, sporty corvine, fierce fighting rooster fish, snook, yellow tail, snapper, amberjack, grouper, seabass, sierra and many more!
The typical Light-Tackle Saltwater Itinerary:
5:45 am: Pick up and hotel and transport to Marina Mazatlan
6:00 am: Arrive and head out fishing. Most captians go and catch live bait with a throw net to ensure that our customers have the freshest, while other fleets don’t offer it.
A typical light fishing day is full of excitement. When you see the explosion of the roosterfish or Dorado on live bait or plug that’s just half the fun. The other part is landing it on a bass rod setup. This makes it that more challenging and exciting. Our 26 feet light tackle boats are equipped with depth finders, GPS, rods, reels, fishing tackle, and live bait. The live bait is very important when light tackle fishing, especially for roosterfish. Of course, one can still go to the front of the boat and cast artificial lures and still bring in some quality fish. The best times for rooster is September through December and April through June. The Dorado usually runs from October through December.
Bottom fishing is usually done from December to April for our light tackle boats. Red snapper are abundant here as well as other species.
If you are looking for some great light tackle excitement then add an additional day to your trip with us and experience the “Mexican Two Step.”
2:00 pm: Arrive at docks and transport to hotel or to the Camichin Restaurant to cook your daily catch on the house. Drinks and beverages are not included. Please keep in mind that we do practice catch and release and the fish brought in is for consumption only.
